The Friends of William Byrd Park (FOWBP) is made up of citizen volunteers whose goal is to preserve and protect, restore and improve, and encourage responsible use of the park. The organization also acts in an advisory capacity to the City of Richmond’s Department of Recreation and Parks in its administration of the park.
Members of FOWBP are dedicated to keeping Byrd Park an attractive destination for people from all around the Richmond metropolitan area. Several times a year the Friends have Prune & Groom events that are designed to enhance an area of the park or to remedy some problem that has come to our attention. Typical projects are tree planting, light pruning, ivy remediation, sucker removal, mulching, and weeding.
